Konstsmide was founded in 1942 by Gunnar Johansson, who left his job at a bus company to forge flower stands and decorations with a focus on quality and design. By 1947 the business was producing serially made Advent candle holders, and outdoor lighting followed in the 1950s. More than 80 years on, the company is still run by the Johansson family, led today by four brothers.
Konstsmide’s approach rests on investment in innovation, solid craftsmanship and long-term cooperation. That focus on innovation saw it introduce LED technology into Christmas lighting in the mid-1990s – a first, according to the company. Its range has grown to cover decorative and seasonal lighting as well as practical outdoor lights for walls, paths and gardens, designed to cope with life outdoors.
